NFL MVP is two-man race through Week 6
The race to crown a National Football League Most Valuable Player became slightly clearer this past weekend.
Even though the season is young, it is never too early to start discussing end of the year awards. We are, after all, a nation obsessed with crowning achievement. Football fans are no different. We want an NFL MVP front runner.
Well, we have two.

Although it might not be as obvious as last season, this year has yielded two surprise teams that have centered around the performances of one specific player on each squad.
The Dallas Cowboys and San Diego Chargers are both 5-1 this season. Those records represent the best in each franchise’s respective conferences. Both teams hold the distinctions of beating Russell Wilson at home during his tenure with the Seattle Seahawks.
The Chargers’ representative should be obvious by now. Philip Rivers has been nothing but exceptional this season. With his 5th consecutive week sporting a passer rating exceeding 120, he now owns the record, passing both Johnny Unitas and Kurt Warner, who each had four in a row.

“How ’bout them Cowboys?” “How ’bout that DeMarco Murray?” is a much better question. He leads the NFL in rushing by a wide margin this year and has been the centerpiece of a Dallas team that looks every bit the part of Super Bowl contender this season. True, he plays with a resurgent Tony Romo, but it was Murray that had the game winning score in Sunday night’s victory in Seattle. Now, how ’bout a look Murray’s line this year?

YPA: (T-8th) 4.9
Murray could also challenge Eric Dickerson’s long standing single season rushing record of 2,105 yards set in 1984. The former’s projected pace stands at 2,093. His pace, however, could surge ahead of Dickerson once again as the Cowboys play the New York Giants this coming weekend.
