The Arizona Cardinals feel their returning quarterback’s arm strength is about 80 percent at the moment.

This information comes courtesy of ESPN’s Ed Werder via Twitter. Palmer went down earlier this season with a nerve injury in his throwing shoulder, the effects on which have shown on the Cardinals’ offense.

Nevertheless, despite some key absences on defense, that side of the ball remains one of the more effective units in the league; one that has helped Arizona lay claim to a 4-1 record, good enough for first place in the NFC West. They already own a win at home over the second place San Francisco 49ers and are just 1 win behind The Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles for the #1 seed in the conference.

A return to full form can only benefit this team, as Palmer has performed well this season. Although only a two game sample, his line goes as follows:

  • 554 Passing Yards
  • 4-0 Pass TD-Interception ratio
  • 64.2 completion percentage
  • 100.5 passer rating
  • 76.2 Total QBR

That passer rating qualifies Palmer for a tie for fourth in the league (with Tony Romo) behind Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers, and Philip Rivers. His 76.2 Total QBR is sixth best in the league behind the aforementioned others and Andrew Luck. Should the Cardinals keep winning while his health holds up, Palmer could find himself in some MVP consideration if his play stays at this level.
