Although there were a couple mild scares, the Dallas Cowboys handled the New York Giants with relative ease on Sunday afternoon allowing them improve to 6-1, an NFL best.

Plenty of players were deserving of the game ball though none received such as the honor went to tight ends coach Mike Pope. Why you ask? Well, Pope was a long-tenured member of the New York Giants franchise and coached under Bill Parcells, Jim Fassel and Tom Coughlin before being let go after last season.

Ready to snatch him up were the Dallas Cowboys who presented him with the game ball after defeating his old team.

“He spent a lot of time in New York with that team, so to be over on this side and get that win surely means a lot to him,” Cowboys tight end Jason Witten said. “You try to say it’s never personal, but for him to come down here and have success — especially against the Giants — was big.”

According to the New York Post, Mike Pope was rather emotional after head coach Jason Garrett presented him with the game ball after the big win.

Witten admitted the team was playing very hard for Pope and were excited to see him receive such an honor.

“We knew he wanted to win this one,” Witten said. “This was his big game, and he really wanted it. You know he was loving this after it was over.”

It’s not very often that an assistant coach is on the receiving end of a game ball, so a very cool gesture on behalf of the Dallas Cowboys who are understandably enjoying their early season success.
