New York Jets general manager John Idzik calls the trade for Percy Harvin a potential ‘coup’.

It appears as if New York Jets general manager John Idzik is pretty proud of his most recent move to acquire Percy Harvin in a trade from the Seattle Seahawks.

Harvin was introduced to the media where Idzik patted himself on the back, suggesting the deal to bring Percy Harvin to the Jets could prove to be a steal.

“This could be a potential coup for the Jets,” general manager John Idzik stated during a Monday press conference.

While it’s a bit premature to suggest that John Idzik is incorrect as Percy Harvin does have immense talent, he’ll be the third general manager to believe he’s getting a Pro Bowl level player. So far though Harvin has been somewhat of a disappointment for both the Minnesota Vikings and Seattle Seahawks. Will such continue with the New York Jets?

Not according to Idzik who feels the addition of Percy Harvin will not only make the team better but will also improve the game of quarterback Geno Smith.

Simply put, if Percy Harvin can keep his head on straight and plays up to his ability then there’s a very good chance that the deal could end up being a ‘coup’ as noted by Idzik. But so far Harvin has proven to be somewhat of a knucklehead and despite all-world talent, at times struggles to harness his ability.

It’s a dice roll for the New York Jets though one that wasn’t too costly and is likely worth the limited risk given the potential reward. Still, calling it a potential ‘coup’ at this point seems to be a significant stretch.

Harvin made his Jets debut today where he practiced with the team. Barring any setback, it’s likely he’ll be ready for game action on Sunday.
