Who are the best NFL running backs in the league?

Who says the NFL is a quarterback-driven league?

Actually, the men behind center get a lot of attention and rightfully so. But the running game is once again getting plenty of attention, mainly because it’s a very important part of the game of football and always will be.

So here we take the time to power rank the league’s starting running backs from 32-1. It’s safe to say who we’ll find at No. 1 these days. However, there’s still 31 other players that you can agree or disagree with when it comes to these rankings.

32. Toby Gerhart, Jacksonville Jaguars

The former Minnesota Vikings backup hasn’t done much this season when healthy and wasn’t around Sunday when the Jaguars ran for a season-high 185 yards in a 24-6 victory over the Browns. Gerhart’s 123 rushing yards actually ranks third on the club behind Denard Robinson (221) and rookie quarterback Blake Bortles (143).

31. DeAngelo Williams, Carolina Panthers

We’re tempted to put quarterback Cam Newton here considering he leads the team in rushing yards, a feat he managed in 2012 as well. Williams has missed three straight games and five of the club’s seven contests this season but keep in mind that backup Jonathan Stewart just returned after missing three consecutive contests. Maybe Newton can hand off to…Newton.
