Although Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James has hinted he’d like to suit up for the Dallas Cowboys before his playing career comes to an end, his children will not be following the same path.
While they are allowed to play basketball just like their father, football is not a sport allowed by James and his wife.
That’s the word from Chris Broussard of ESPN who says LeBron James told him that playing football isn’t an option for his children.
It’s a bit of an odd stance considering LeBron James not only played football at the high school level but he succeeded at the sport during his time at Cleveland’s St. Vincent-St.Mary’s. Had James not been so talented at basketball it’s very likely he would have played football at the college level as his 1,900 career receiving yards and 27 touchdowns caught the eye of collegiate scouts across the country.
The Cleveland Cavaliers forward didn’t explain why he doesn’t allow his two sons to play football though it seems the obvious choice would be due to potential injury risk.
Over the past few years enrollment in Pop Warner leagues have declined as many continue to focus on head injuries suffered by those playing at all levels of the sport.
Perhaps LeBron James Jr. and Bryce Maximus James aren’t all that enamored with football anyway and would prefer to shadow their father in basketball. Assuming the talent runs in the bloodline, they should have little problem doing so.
