Per usatoday.com, Hamlin said it was just all about being a friend.
"I’ve been a basketball fan for a really long time. He’s just a good friend that came to support a friend"
Jordan spent the race in a suite and then came down to comfort Hamlin after the race had ended. Plus, NASCAR has a fan in Michael Jordan.
"He’s a huge race fan. When he came in the motor home earlier today, he talked about converting all these people to race fans. That’s awesome that he thinks so much to come down and support his friend"
I’ll be honest, I was not aware Jordan was a fan and I’m sure many others didn’t either. I suppose if there was one person who could get people to convert, it would be Jordan, being the polarizing figure he is.
Jordan wasn’t the only one who showed up to support a driver though. Ryan Newman team owner Richard Childress had Kansas City Royals manager as a guest at Homestead-Miami Speedway to talk to the team about handling pressure.
Whatever it takes, right? Bringing in winners from other arenas of sports can never hurt in helping motivate your team to a championship.
