Some may accuse Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant of being a ball hog.

At times that might be true, especially given the lack of talent around him. But on Tuesday night, the Black Mamba had to channel his inner J.R. Smith with the clock ticking down in the first quarter.

Down by five, Lakers teammate Carlos Boozer grabbed a defensive rebound and gave the outlet pass to Bryant who brought the ball up the court. With every other Lakers player trailing behind him (which says plenty by itself), Kobe Bryant crossed the mid-court line where every defender on the Sacramento Kings swarmed towards the former MVP.

That’s when Kobe Bryant decided he had no other choice but to unload and fire up a shot over five defenders, all of whom were doing what they could to block the shot.

Crazy enough, Bryant’s shot actually looked good for a moment before it eventually rolled out.

It’s not exactly strange to see a multitude of defenders attempt to lock up a player in the final seconds of a quarter, but it’s pretty rare you see all five players from the oppositions defensive unit come at one guy. That’s exactly what happened to Kobe Bryant though and he didn’t have any choice considering nobody else ran up the court with him.

Had one of his teammates opted to do so, there’s a pretty good chance they would have had an open 30-foot shot considering the attention Bryant was able to draw.

Thankfully for the Lakers the blunder didn’t cost them the win as they came back and secured a victory against their Pacific Division rivals.
