Kansas City Chiefs‘ great Bobby Bell, already a member of the NFL and College Football Hall of Fame, completed a different accomplishment by graduating college at age 74.

Bobby Bell has quite the list of accomplishments. At age 74, he has presumably earned the opportunity to sit back, relax, and enjoy retirement. That would probably be the mindset of a lot of people at that point in their lives, especially if they were card-carrying members of multiple football Hall of Fames.

Not Bobby Bell, though. Remembering conversations and lessons from his father, Bell made it a priority to graduate from college. He was determined to get his degree even if it came late in life, and at age 74, he has done just that.

Here is a glimpse at Bell’s motivation, courtesy of the New York Times:

"Bell finished what he had started 56 years ago: his course work to earn a degree from Minnesota. He did it to honor his father, Pink Lee Bell, who had minimal schooling himself but convinced his son that a boy from the segregated South could attend a major university.“My father always said sports and education were things where blacks could compete equally with whites — if given the chance,” Bell said."

You cannot say enough about this gesture by Bobby Bell to honor his father and a time that was much different in terms of black people having access to a college education.

Good on Bobby Bell.
