Apparently, Mike Tyson almost beat up Michael Jordan
By Bryce Olin
Former boxing icon Mike Tyson almost beat up Michael Jordan because he dated Tyson’s ex-wife, Robin Givens, before Tyson and Givens had met
Stories from Mike Tyson’s troubled past continue to come out, as Rory Holloway, Tyson’s friend and former manager, releases his book “Taming the Beast: The Untold Story of Mike Tyson.”
The latest story, which was reported by the NY Post and other media sites around the world, involves a dinner party with Tyson, Michael Jordan, Chicago Bears head coach Mike Ditka, Bears defensive end Richard Dent and promoter Don King.
Oh, what I would pay to have been there.
As Holloway tells it, Tyson was going through a rough time after splitting up from his first wife, Robin Givens, and it didn’t make the situation any better that Jordan had dated Givens before she knew Tyson.
Here’s the excerpt from Holloway’s book that NY Post picked up:
"“Mike Tyson’s sitting there with his drink of choice, a Long Island Tea, and when he drinks his real feelings come out …,” Holloway writes.“Jordan looks like he just seen a ghost. ‘I know you messed with her,’ Mike says. ‘You can tell me.’“I’m telling the server to water his drinks down ‘cause I see where this is going. Mike stares across the table at Michael Jordan. He says, ‘Hey man, you think I’m stupid? I know you f—-d with my b—h.’“Jordan, it’s obvious he just wants to get up and run. He wants no part of this. Mike turns to Ditka. ‘Man, you think somebody scared of you, all that racist s–t you been talking?’ He says to Dent, ‘Y’all scared of this damn white man, Richard? He ain’t nobody. You gonna let him talk that way?’“It was a circus, for real, that night. Don King trying to change the subject. Me and John trying to hold Mike down. Mike telling everyone he’s going to bust Jordan’s ass. Jordan’s dressed sharp as always and he can’t get out of there fast enough.”"
Whoa…
First of all, how did that group of people get together anyway? I can see Jordan and Tyson hanging out together. They were international superstars at the time, and famous people hang out with other famous people.

Dent also can be included in the group. He won MVP of Super Bowl XX, and he’s an NFL Hall-of-Famer. He also makes sense.
Because of his ties to Tyson and overall status at the time as one of boxing’s biggest promoters, King also makes sense to be at the dinner party.
Ditka is obviously the guy who doesn’t fit, and I honestly can’t figure out why he was hanging with Tyson and Jordan. Ditka was the man in Chicago for a time, but he wasn’t ever big enough to hang with Tyson and Jordan, right? Apparently, I’m wrong.
Also, I’m not sure how I feel about Tyson’s former manager releasing a book on Tyson and opening up even more of his personal and emotional problems for the world to read. Everyone’s entitled to write a memoir if people will read it, but it seems like Holloway is cashing in on his experience riding the coattails of a great but troubled boxer.
If Tyson had a problem with it, I’m sure he’d handle the situation and get Holloway to shut down the entire operation down, but it feels weird, right?
