New England Patriots win Super Bowl XLIX: Fans react on Twitter
On Sunday night, the New England Patriots won Super Bowl XLIX. Below are the reactions of several fans on Twitter.
The 2014 NFL season has officially come to a close. The New England Patriots are your Super Bowl XLIX champions. They defeated the Seattle Seahawks in a game that was back and forth throughout most of the first half, and remained close all night. The Seahawks came into the match up as the defending Super Bowl champions, while the Patriots were looking like a resurgent team that had been written off early in the season. Both teams had steamrolled into the game with a tremendous amount of momentum. Seattle had a dramatic comeback against the Green Bay Packers to win the NFC; while the Pats (albeit with a bit of controversy) destroyed the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Championship game.

All the usual suspects had a role to play in the outcome of this game, including quarterbacks Tom Brady, who threw two rare interceptions, and Russell Wilson, victim of a rough first half which saw the guy go without a completion until late in the second quarter. Marshawn Lynch put his own stamp on the game with 102 yards on 24 carries and a TD. Richard Sherman and the “Legion of Boom” were relatively ineffective though; the real star of the game for Seattle was Chris Matthews, who was signed to the Seattle practice squad roster on December 6th. The undrafted free agent had 4 catches for 109 yards and a crucial touchdown to end the first half.
That being said, it was not enough, as Brady found Julian Edelman with 2:02 left in the game to give the Patriots a 28-24 lead. It was his fourth touchdown pass of the game, one for every ring the veteran QB will have after tonight. A late charge by Wilson and company was halted at the 1-yard line with an interception by rookie safety Malcom Butler. Naturally, the same night he becomes the Super Bowl’s all time leader in TD passes, Brady is named MVP of the game for the third time in his career.
All in all it was a great back and forth game between two of the premier head coaches in the league today, Bill Belichick and Pete Carroll. But in the end, only one team could stand tall as Super Bowl champs. Below are the reactions of several users on Twitter. Congratulations again, to the New England Patriots.
