There are rumors that Cristiano Ronaldo could consider playing in Major League Soccer in 2018.

Cristiano Ronaldo is currently the best player on the planet, having won two consecutive FIFA Ballon d’Or Awards. The only argument anyone has against Ronaldo being the best player on the planet is Lionel Messi, but it is pretty clear it is a two-horse race.

In a Tuesday article on SI.com, Grant Wahl says their our rumblings from a source that Ronaldo could be ready to come to America. His current contract ends in 2018 when he’d be 33 years old.

Lately there have been a lot of big name European stars coming over to Major League Soccer in the United States. Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is set to join the Los Angeles Galaxy, Frank Lampard and David Villa joined New York City FC and Kaka joined Orlando City.

A name like Ronaldo would be arguably the biggest star ever to join Major League Soccer, perhaps bigger than David Beckham coming over.

Ronaldo reportedly enjoys vacationing in the United States because there is a little bit more anonymity. He can walk through the streets without being mobbed. Ronaldo recently released a video of him playing some street soccer with a kid disguised as a homeless man. When he removes the disguise it is insane to see how quickly he gets swarmed, in a matter of seconds.

“Ronaldo’s main interest lies in cities you’d probably expect: Miami, Los Angeles and New York,” Wahl writes. Which doesn’t seem to be surprising, the biggest names get placed in favorable markets.

But Ronaldo coming over when his contract expires makes things easier for him to join the MLS without having to worry about transfers.
