Baseball has a funny way of being adorable while also being sort of cheesy. Carlos Gomez is a player who knows when to be adorable and when not to be — and more often then not he’s making SportsCenter for not being an upstanding citizen of the sport.

You could almost equate Gomez to being the J.R. Smith of baseball, as you love to hate him but can’t help admiring his skill at times. On the Fourth of July, Gomez decided to shelve the anti-hero antics for a day and play nice with Cincinnati Reds outfielder Billy Hamilton.

In the third inning, Carlos Gomez left something on the outfield grass for Billy Hamilton. When the Reds centerfielder got out to his position, he saw that it was a note and some gum from his Milwaukee counterpart.

This is one of those things that makes baseball really awesome and also really stupid. Thankfully, Gomez was able to pull it off and make it a cool gesture that we can all laugh at.

So many times, most often in college baseball, players do really cheesy things like have dance offs during rain delays, sing karaoke with one another or role play a fantasy game to kill time. Gomez showed the world how it’s done as you need to pick and choose when you want to be cheesy, because when done right it can become an interesting piece of your legacy and not a desperate plea to go viral.
