With just a week left to go before the All-Star game, Major League Baseball isn’t starting the week slow with 11 games on the schedule for this evening. With 22 starting pitchers to pick from, there are some solid fantasy baseball options and others to stay away from.  Getting the right starters in place is key to fantasy baseball success, so check out my starting pitcher rankings on the following slides before you set your rotation for today.

As I typically do in this post, I’ve divided the probable pitchers for today into stay-away options, scary options, sleeper options, solid starter options, and star options. Included under each player is a quick synopsis of why they are ranked where they are in today’s starting pitcher rankings.

If you are interested in checking out a daily fantasy baseball format, you can get started by clicking the box to the right for a link to FanDuel which is one of many sites that offer daily fantasy baseball.   Especially in FanDuel’s format with only one starting pitcher, getting the right starter at the right price can make all the difference between taking home some cash and leaving disappointed. However you decide to play today, hopefully my rankings will help point you in the right direction.

If you have a sleeper I miss or a different perspective, feel free to share your opinion on the bottom of the page in the comments or on Twitter @FansidedFantasy.  You can find all our ongoing coverage  on our fantasy baseball hub where we’ll be posting new rankings all week long as well as the best batter vs pitcher matchups to target for each day (today’s top 10 here).

As we start off this week, let’s look at the 22 pitchers scheduled to take the mound tonight:

Stay-away Options

6. O’Sullivan and the Phillies are out West to take on Jimmy Rollins and the Dodgers tonight.  O’Sullivan has been rocked for 22 hits and 12 runs in his last two starts falling to 1-6 on the year with a 5.76 ERA.. Philadelphia Phillies. @ Dodgers. Sean O'Sullivan. 22. player

76. Lohse keeps starting for the Brewers despite his 6.24 ERA. However, he has allowed more than three runs in six of his last eight starts so stay away from him for fantasy baseball purposes.. Milwaukee Brewers. vs Braves. Kyle Lohse. 21. player

Detroit Tigers. @ Mariners. Alfredo Simon. 20. player. 63. Simon and the Tigers are at pitcher-friendly Safeco Field tonight as they take on Seattle.  Simon has been struggling lately and gave up 15 hits and six runs in his last outing in just 5.2 innings.  In his last three starts he has allowed 18 runs on 31 hits in just 14.2 innings.  Until he gets things turned around, stay away from Simon.

The Rays rookie is 3-4 with a 4.70 ERA after allowing five runs in seven innings in his last start.  He has allowed three or more runs in three of his last four starts, and taking on the Royals tonight isn’t the time to take a risk on Colome even though he’s been better on the road than at home.. Tampa Bay Rays. @ Royals. Alex Colome. 19. player. 21

vs Tigers. Hisashi Iwakuma. 18. player. 62. Iwakuma returns from the DL tonight against the Tigers and pitching at Safeco always makes him an intriguing option. However, since he hasn’t pitched since April 20, I’d let him get one game back before playing him in daily formats.  In season-long formats, Iwakuma is a great pickup but I would still sit him on the bench for today.. Seattle Mariners
