For months and months now, we’ve all speculated whether or not Braxton Miller plans on returning to Ohio State to finish out his illustrious college football career or head elsewhere, given the circumstances in Columbus. Despite all the speculation, we never actually heard from Miller himself in regards to his intentions — until now.

In an interview with the Columbus Dispatch on Thursday, Miller officially announced that he’s not going anywhere and he will indeed compete for the Ohio State starting quarterback job.

“I’m from Ohio, this is my home state,” Miller said. “This is where I started and this is where I’m going to finish it.”

This is somewhat surprising, especially considering that Miller was not on the field at all last season for the Buckeyes and their magical run to the national championship. Despite his career success with Ohio State, which includes being named Big Ten Player of the Year twice, you would assume that either Cardale Jones or J.T. Barrett have the lead for the job. Even if that is the case, apparently Miller is willing to take his chances.

As you would expect, Miller did also admit that a number of schools reached out for his services, as he would have been eligible to play anywhere in 2015, having earned his degree last winter.

“Schools reached out, they reached out hard, and I kept my head where it needed to be, and I stayed smart with my situation.” Because, as he pointed out, “It was kind of tough for me and my family to go through that situation, the second (shoulder) surgery and stuff like that.”

So now, things are about as interesting as you can get heading into the season when it comes to the Ohio State starting quarterback race. You have Cardale Jones, who led the Buckeyes on that amazing three-game run; J.T. Barrett, who navigated this team through the regular season; And now a two-time Big Ten Player of the Year who was consistently in the running for the Heisman.

Without a doubt, all eyes will be on Columbus, Ohio from now until Sept. 7 when they take on Virginia Tech in the opener.
