Just when you think a day in the life of Michigan Wolverines football head coach Jim Harbaugh couldn’t possibly get any more interesting, something else comes up.
This time, Harbaugh mistook the greatest basketball player of all-time for a prank caller. In a press conference on the Big Ten Network on Thursday, Harbaugh said he was believed he was part of a prank when someone claiming to be Michael Jordan called him, via USA Today Sports.
"Michael Jordan called @CoachJim4UM. His reaction to learning it was the Greatest of All Time? That’s right here! http://t.co/VVSlwn0Oe5— Big Ten Network (@BigTenNetwork) August 27, 2015"
It turns out that was in fact the real Michael Jordan, much to Harbaugh’s surprise. At least Harbaugh’s wife Sarah was impressed that Michael Jordan called her husband, even if she doesn’t approve of his khakis.
Of course, that raises the question of why Jordan was calling Harbaugh in the first place. Michigan will be wearing Jordan’s “Jumpman” logo as part of a new deal, so he decided to call Harbaugh two weeks ago to confirm the deal.
Harbaugh seemed thrilled about the uniform change, so there’s no telling how excited he was to receive a personal call from Jordan.
It may take Michigan a couple of seasons to get back up to speed and compete with the top of the Big Ten, but Harbaugh will always be entertaining to watch no matter what.
