Virginia Tech QB Michael Brewer leaves game vs Ohio State with injured shoulder (Video)
Virginia Tech quarterback Michael Brewer had to leave the game in the third quarter with Ohio State on upset alert
The Virginia Tech Hokies went into the second half of their season-opener against the Ohio State Buckeyes with a huge upset in mind. They led 17-14 at the start of the third quarter and were still in striking distance after a Braxton Miller touchdown catch put OSU up 21-17. However, an injury to Hokies quarterback Michael Brewer could derail any upset plans.
After having already been knocked down and even sandwiched by Ohio State defenders throughout the game, Brewer took a monster hit in the third quarter and landed hard on his shoulder:
As you can see, Brewer immediately grabbed for his shoulder after the play. He was then taken to the locker room after coming out of the game. Now the Virginia Tech football Twitter account has confirmed that Brewer will not be coming back into the game:
ESPN cleared up the shoulder injury slightly on the broadcast, calling it a collarbone injury.
Redshirt junior Brenden Motley, who is more of a dual-threat quarterback, but also a player with far less experience than Brewer, replaced the injured quarterback. The Hokies still have a shot at shocking the world on this Monday night, but it’s going to be even more of an uphill climb with Motley instead of Brewer.
