The San Diego Chargers overcame a huge early deficit to take down the Detroit Lions

13. 28. 50. Final. 33

The San Diego Chargers got down early at home in Qualcomm Stadium against the Detroit Lions. Matthew Stafford, Ameer Abdullah and the Lions offense were able to move the ball well in the first half and Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers threw two costly interceptions in the first half as well. As a result, San Diego went into halftime trailing 21-10.

Whatever their offense was missing in the first half, though, the Chargers found it when they came back out of the locker room. Keenan Allen was a monster in the receiving game, catching anything that came in his general vicinity. Meanwhile, Melvin Gordon showed his talent, veteran receiver Stevie Johnson came to life, and young tight end Ladarius Green showed up as well, as the second half was all Chargers. A Green touchdown finally gave the Bolts the lead and a late one-yard touchdown run by Danny Woodhead, his second TD of the afternoon, put the Chargers up by 12 points. The Lions threatened with a late Theo Riddick touchdown, but the Chargers held on to get the win.

Three stars

Keenan Allen never found his way into the end zone on Sunday afternoon, but the talented receiver caught a ridiculous 15 passes for 166 yards on the afternoon.

Ameer Abdullah only had 11 touches on offense (seven carries and four catches), but he combined for 94 total yards and a score in his first NFL game. Throw in the fact that he averaged 35 yards per kick return in Week One and he deserves some spotlight, even in a loss.

Kyle Emanuel was huge at linebacker for the Charger as he recorded three tackles, two tackles for loss, and came up with a big second-half interception as San Diego was making their comeback.

Odds
