Blair Walsh’s field goal miss was an all-timer, but was it the worst in NFL playoff history?

Kickers are either your best friend or worst enemy depending on a number of different factors. You hate the opposing kicker for making the game-winner just as much as you love your kicker if he does the same for you. But when a kicker misses, then all of a sudden the weight of the world tries to break his back — something that is heightened when we’re talking about playoff football.

The latest example of a kicker screwing his team with a missed kick was Blair Walsh and the Minnesota Vikings.

By now, Walsh has taken full responsibility for his team’s loss, while many — including former Vikings star Nate Burleson — have offered him words of encouragement by now. If Walsh has to be encouraged by anything, it’s that it can’t get any worse for him and that he’s not alone. Many kickers have missed field goals in the playoffs, some of them with even more on the line. In fact, Walsh’s field goal miss may not even be the worst in Vikings history (more on that later).

Blair’s kick will still appear on this lists of the worst kicks in NFL history, but it’s not as high as one might think. If there’s one source of solace for Vikings fans, it’s that they’re not the only fan base that has been done in hard by their kicker in the worst possible spot.

What is the worst kick in NFL history? The painful path to No. 1 is one that everyone can feel a little bad about.
