NBA Rumors: 5 free agent destinations for LeBron James
I have to admit this is my favorite scenario in many ways. The opportunity to watch Celtics head coach Brad Stevens work with LeBron on a nightly basis would be the equivalent of basketball heaven. It would be an absolute treat to watch.
You’re probably thinking that the Celtics roster right now isn’t stocked with enough talent to entice LeBron and you’d be right. The thing to remember is that the team heads into the off-season armed with tons of cap space, some enticing young trade pieces and great draft picks. Danny Ainge could work some serious magic to build a team entirely around LeBron.
In fairness to the C’s current squad, they do have some guys would be excellent fits alongside James. Isiah Thomas and Jae Crowder in particular could be excellent teammates as LeBron ages. Crowder could take on the tougher defensive assignments to let LeBron rest and Isiah can create offense on his own without James’ help. The ability to coast is going to become more and more important to James as he gets older.
To believe in this scenario you really have to use your foresight. James moving to Boston is about how much flexibility the team has to build a squad around him. Don’t get caught up in what the Celtics are today, dream about what Stevens, Ainge and LeBron could create tomorrow.
