When you talk about the great Dolphins offensive moments from the 1980’s, there was one man who was making sure that quarterback Dan Marino was staying on his feet to throw all those touchdowns…the man who was snapping him the ball on every play.

After a career at Alabama where legendary head coach Bear Bryant called Stephenson “the greatest player regardless of position” that he ever coached, Stephenson was drafted by the Dolphins with the 48th pick in 1980 and spent much of his first two seasons in the league sparsely seeing the field except for special teams.

Once the 1982 season rolled around, Stephenson found himself in the starting lineup and would stay there for the remaining six seasons of his career. During his time in the lineup, the Dolphins had the least amount of sacks each year, a record span that still stands today. Five times, Stephenson was selected for the Pro Bowl and was named an All-Pro for five seasons as well.

Though his career only lasted eight seasons due to injury, Stephenson has been honored by the team for his work and his still considered one of the best Dolphins ever…regardless of position.
