After displaying sensational pass rushing skills during his first two seasons at Texas A&M, defensive end Myles Garrett could compete as a Heisman finalist during his junior season

The Texas A&M Aggies moved to the SEC in 2012, and it hasn’t taken long for them to fit right in with the big dogs in the tough conference. One of the reasons for their assimilation is their stellar pass rush, which is anchored by their star defensive end Myles Garrett.

After bursting on to the scene as a freshman in 2014 with 11 sacks, Garrett continued to impress last season by displaying his knack for getting after the quarterback with another 11.5 sacks as a sophomore.

At 6-foot-5 and 262 pounds, the junior pass rusher should easily be a top-ten pick in the NFL Draft should he decide to declare after this season, but before looking that far ahead, he could potentially be the first defensive player since Charles Woodson in 1997 to win the Heisman Trophy.

Of course, the award is often given to the most exciting player, which usually happens to be an offensive guy because they are the ones who create the highlights. So in order to buck that trend, a player like Garrett would need to really catch the voters’ attention, and here are five reasons he is poised to do just that.
