Go fast, but not too fast, as we zip through what’s in the September 2016 Loot Crate shipment.

A wise man once said, “I feel the need … the need for speed!” Actually, that was Maverick from Top Gun, but that sentiment is still relevant since the theme for the Loot Crate September 2016 box is speed.

Lots of things in pop culture go fast, and while a couple of the inclusions here might catch you by surprise, there’s no question this is a fun shipment. As a big superhero fan, I’ll even say I was pleasantly surprised.

Let’s open it up as quickly as possible …

Loot Crate September 2016 unboxing: Speed

Let’s start with the box itself. Longtime subscribers know that Loot Crate often does something creative with what looks like a plain black rectangle when you get it. But this month you can actually transform the box into a car thanks to an extra piece that comes with your goodies.

There are three different colors, and you’re encouraged to hit social media and post a pic with the hashtag for your ride to see which color comes out on top.

Exclusive The Flash or Arrow Hood Ornament-Style Figure (from By George!)

These are just a cool idea: silver, chrome-like figures of the Flash and Green Arrow from the shows on The CW done up in the style of mid-20th century hood ornaments. Even better, you can even use them on your hood, though the box suggests you don’t do so when driving over 75 mph. Even magnetism, it seems, can be defeated by speed.

Exclusive Battlestar Galactica “Scar” Vinyl Replica (from Titan Merchandise)

Ironically, I was just discussing with friends the other day that I’ve never seen Battlestar Galactica, but I certainly know the Cylons and their ships. Every Loot Crate has one item I wouldn’t have picked for myself but still don’t mind getting, and this was the one for September for me.

Exclusive Stark Industries Racing Tee (from Fifth Sun)

Remember that part of Iron Man 2 where Pepper was more worried about Tony getting behind the wheel of a race car than she was bout him flying around as Iron Man? Yeah, that never made much sense to me either. In any case, this is an awesome shirt with bright, bold graphics on a plain black tee.

Exclusive Batwing Keychain (from QMx)

QMx comes correct on a regular basis with its Loot Crate items, and this is no exception. This is probably the most universal item for September, as it’s hard to imagine anyone into geek subscription services wouldn’t like this. It’s modeled after the Batwing from the 1989 Batman movie, by the way.

Gone in 60 Seconds “Eleanor” Die-Cast Car (from Greenlight Collectibles)

If you’ve seen the movie, you know this is Memphis’ White Whale, the 1967 Ford Shelby GT500 he could never successfully steal before (and proceeds to beat the crap out of while outrunning the cops). Featuring real rubber wheels plus a hood and doors that actually open, this should interest both car collectors and movie buffs.

This Month’s Pin

It’s a “Loot Year” tire, naturally. But it comes with a free digital copy of a Velocity trade paperback from Top Cow. Speed-themed superhero? Yeah, that works.

Value Proposition

A little harder to figure for September since there are a couple items that are hard to price, but still no qualms. The shirt, Cylon vinyl ship and superhero hood ornament get you most of the way there, and the Gone in 60 Seconds die-cast car is likely more than $15 retail on its own.

Loot Crate themes are always a matter of personal preference, but this was one of my favorites for 2016 so far. Now I feel like mashing the gas or doing some sprints. Actually, not that second one.

Disclosure: FanSided was provided with a free September 2016 Loot Crate box for the purposes of this review.
