Southampton face Burnley at St. Mary’s Stadium on Sunday, Oct.16. Here’s all the info you need to watch. 

A mere two points separates these two teams in the Premier League standings, as Southampton go into Sunday’s game vying for their seventh successive clean sheet.

Southampton’s recent impenetrable defense is the principal reason they are tied for 10th in the standings. The Saints haven’t conceded a Premier League goal in over a month, the last coming in a 2-1 away defeat to Arsenal on September 10.

A few injuries to key defensive personnel could have an unsettling effect, as Southampton will play without the services of full-backs Cedric Soares (foot) and Ryan Bertrand (hamstring).

Recent history, though, is on the Saints’ side, with Southampton losing only once in their last 14 league meetings with Burnley. Burnley have managed six draws during that stretch. The Saints, even more forebodingly for Burnley, have scored at least once in 13 straight home games, which is currently the best run in the league.

Burnley aren’t exactly known for their offensive prowess, further emboldened by the fact that they haven’t scored an away goal so far this season. Sure, they’ve only played three away matches but their obvious lack of firepower won’t inject much fear into a well organised, stout Saints defense.

Saints will continue their winning ways on Sunday and extend their clean-sheet streak to seven games in all competitions. Burnley haven’t figured out how to stretch opposing defenses away from home and don’t have a bona fide goal threat to help their cause.
