Anthony Rizzo tacked onto the Cubs lead with this RBI single.

Dexter Fowler opened up Game 7 for the Chicago Cubs with a leadoff home run. This got things going for the Cubs, who drove in two more runs in the fourth and another pair in the fifth inning. This first saw Javier Baez launch a home run to right-center field to push the lead to 4-1. Then, Anthony Rizzo came to the plate.

Prior to the Cubs first baseman being up, Kris Bryant had been walked by Cleveland Indians reliever Andrew Miller. The pitch barely missed the strike zone, which would have gotten them out of the inning.

Well, Rizzo would end up hitting a line drive to right field, which Bryant raced all the way from first to home to score. This made the lead for the Cubs, 5-1.

This RBI single was just the second run that Miller has given up this postseason. He’s been dominant for Terry Francona and the Indians staff, but didn’t look his sharpest in the top of the fifth inning.

The Cubs are getting close to stretching this lead to the point where the Indians will have little chance of coming back. Kyle Kendricks has shut them down throughout Game 7, with the exception of Carlos Santana driving in a run.

Anthony Rizzo’s hit could be just the latest of many more runs to come for the Cubs. As of the fifth inning, it’s looking good for them to end their World Series curse.
