The Buffalo Bills still have hopes of making the postseason and here are five reasons they should be optimistic about snapping their playoff drought.

Through 10 games the Bills are sitting at 5-5 and in the middle of an AFC wild card race. The division is likely out of hand, but a playoff berth could be within reach.

In fact, the Bills may end up being that team to make the playoffs that came out of nowhere and causes a lot of trouble in the postseason. If Buffalo is going to snap the NFL’s longest postseason drought, it’ll be as a result of these five reasons.

5. Sammy Watkins

2014 may go down as the best wide receiver draft in recent history. Sammy Watkins headlined that draft, being the top wide receiver drafted with the No. 4 pick. However, injury and some quarterback issues have held his career back. At this point, Tyrod Taylor is playing solid football, and this week Watkins has been cleared medically to return and is listed as questionable.

Watkins tried to start his season on a bum ankle and only made it through two weeks before being placed on the IR. However, the Bills survived their time without him and may be getting a huge boost out of him for their stretch run to the playoffs.

Watkins is a major game changer who still has big time deep threat abilities and with that demands safety respect. The Bills’ group of wide receivers without Watkins has been less than impressive. Robert Woods is leading the team in catches and averages just over four per game. Justin Hunter leads the team in receiving touchdowns with six.

The Clemson product can provide a spark as a playmaker but also can open up the field for players such as Woods and Hunter. He spaces out the defense and automatically gives Taylor a weapon he has survived all season without. Watkins is a huge addition at this point of the season, and the Bills offense may be a lot better with him down this stretch.
