As we inch closer to March Madness, we will look at who has best chances of making a run out of the Big 12 Conference

Conference play has just begun, and we now are starting to get a feel for who these teams are and how dangerous they can be. The Big 12, like most years, looks to be a strong conference from top to bottom.

With that being said, how does this conference shape out as we head into the big months of February and March? We will provide weekly power rankings to help. We will look at not just who is playing the best right now, but who has the ability to be the best moving forward. Here are your Big 12 power rankings.

10

Texas Longhorns

Last week: 7-10, 1-4 Big 12
Last rank: 8th

This is not how the Texas Longhorns envisioned year two under Shaka Smart going. The Longhorns have a group of ugly losses, and it got worse this week as they dropped two home conference games. Their star player, Tevin Mack, has been suspended. They have blown leads, been blown out and a home loss to TCU this week showed that this team is not going anywhere in conference play. The Longhorns also dropped a home duel to West Virginia in what will be a three-game test against ranked opponents. This week they take to the road to see if they can right the ship against Baylor and Kansas.

9

Oklahoma Sooners

Last week: 7-9, 1-4 Big 12
Last rank: 10th

The Sooners were able to pick up their first win of the conference season this week. Jordan Woodard missed six games with an illness, but came back and impressed as he put up 27 points in a nine-point win at home against Texas Tech. Woodard may be able to give this team a spark as they head into the heat of conference play. The Sooners are still a well-coached team, and while the talent is not where it was last season, this season they look to play spoiler to some of the elite. They will have their chance this week as they head to a top ten team in West Virginia and host Iowa State.
