Russell Westbrook has been a key member of the Mountain Dew team since 2015, and his new ad for the soft drink brand encourages fans to “do you.”  As Westbrook says, “‘Don’t do they, do you’ are words I’ve been living by for my entire life.”

The ad doesn’t air on television until Saturday night’s All Star festivities on TNT, but it is available on YouTube now. Let me tell you, it is an instant classic. As I’ve said many times on my podcast, I am a Russell Westbrook enthusiast. I have high standards when it comes to the NBA’s best dressed star, and this ad did not disappoint.

Though it is only a thirty second spot, I loved every second. It was hard to narrow down the list to my five favorite things:

Trolling Steph Curry: some might say I’m reading too far into this, but the deep 3-pointer in the opening scene feels like a direct shot at Kevin Durant’s new point guard. Now that we are deep in the Cupcake Wars of 2017, I say all is fair in baking and basketball. Get him, Russ.

THE CD PLAYER: we all know about his unique sense of fashion, but I had no idea the quirky style extended into music devices. This moment raised so many questions for me — Where did he get it? Where did he get a CD? Can you run with a CD player? How much does a CD cost these days?

No Taylor Swift: I love all things Westbrook, but I honestly can’t get behind his love of T-Swift. I might have audibly squealed when I realized he was listening to slow jams instead of “Shake it Off.”

Camo, two ways: I’ve been saying this for years, but the only thing better than one type of camo on your shirt is two types of camo on your shirt. He just gets me.

The dunk contest: Folks always talk about how much they would like to see LeBron in the dunk contest. This commercial had to make you at least a little curious about what a Russ dunk contest might look like. What would he do? My bet is he would dunk over his little brother, Ray, while Ray twirls fire batons. This is the best dream I’ve ever had, and now nothing will compare. Thanks for ruining All-Star weekend, Westbrook family.

Westbrook might not have been a voted a starter for this week’s All Star game, but this ad gives me confidence he is coming to play. Here’s to a third consecutive All Star MVP trophy, Russ. Do you, brodie!
