Michigan St. was up big at the half Thursday vs. Nebraska and Cassius Winston is helping the cause. 

College basketball is hitting its stride as we end the regular seasons across America and prepare ourselves for March Madness. In a Thursday night matchup against Nebraska, freshman Cassius Winston provided some entertainment for the East Lansing faithful up 46-31 on the Cornhuskers.

Catching the inbounds pass and weaving past his defender, Winston rose up and drained this Stephen Curry-esque buzzer-beater from halfcourt.

Up by 15? No problem, let’s give it to the freshman to stomp on the grave some more. Cue Cassius.

Shots like this are happening more often, and guys hit from everywhere. Shots like this are why we watch the game, what keeps us coming back, the instance of dramatics present in sports is everything.

Everyone appreciates the buzzer beater. Not just a nice buzzer beater, but the ones where you get the opportunity to sprint right into the tunnel to the locker room. The halfcourt shot, the 3/4-court heave — you know, just one of those shots that just takes the energy, heart and soul from right out of your opponent.

A native to Detroit, Winston was a four-star recruit per 247 Sports and rated the No. 2 player in the state of Michigan. Michigan State fans will be hoping for more moments of joy and excitement in March when the lights shine brighter. And with a name like Cassius Winston, the freshman checks off all the boxes. Big time shot in front of the home crowd, famous first name, rocking the headband and he’s playing for Tom Izzo.
