Louisville Cardinals head coach Rick Pitino had to be restrained by his assistants as he got angry with a North Carolina fan on his way back to the tunnel.

There’s nothing quite like the atmosphere of a college basketball game. With the fans jumping on their feet throughout the game and making noise, it’s quite the scene. At Chapel Hill, it’s one of the craziest venues in all of college basketball. And just as they are sometimes college kids can be college kids. Just ask Rick Pitino.

After an incredibly tight first half between the Louisville Cardinals and North Carolina Tar Heels, Pitino made his way back to the tunnel. As he was walking back, he apparently took exception to something someone said, according to Jonathan Jones.

With an angry look on his face, Pitino had to be restrained. As someone that’s probably heard it all throughout all the games he’s coached in his career, it probably took something extra to set him off but nonetheless it did.

Pitino has never been afraid to get fired up while coaching, so it should come as no surprise he might get angry with fans. However, when on the road in a hostile environment, it’s probably best to just let everything that is said go through one ear and out the other.

Fortunately, his assistants and others were there to corral him and get him back to give his team their marching orders for the second half. Kids will heckle until they’re blue in the face and Pitino had enough after the first half.
