The Replay: Carmelo and LaLa Anthony call it quits
The past year has been full of surprises in the sports world. Carmelo and LaLa Anthony’s recent split might be the most surprising of all, at least for those of us at The Replay. We are suckers for a good NBA power couple, and no couple is more powerful than LaMelo (not Ball).
Carmelo Anthony met Lala Vasquez when he was just nineteen and she was an MTV veejay. Side note, remember when MTV played music videos?! They fell in love, LaLa moved to Denver, and the rest is history. History that you can revisit on YouTube courtesy of their time as reality TV stars.
While we love all NBA power couples, we were particularly drawn to Lamelo because LaLa is a strong, independent woman. After their wedding, she continued pursuing her career as an actress. She has even written two books. On top of that, they have an adorable son and a great friendship with the banana boat crew.

Everything seemed perfect. Until it didn’t. Earlier this week, rumors started flying that the romance was over. We were sad to hear the couple is likely calling it quits, but we did enjoy taking a trip down memory lane. We watched videos of Melo as a rookie on MTV Cribs. We watched clips from LaLa’s Full Court Life. We even read excerpts from LaLa’s Love Playbook.This podcast is well researched!
On this episode, we discuss our anger toward Melo’s philosophy on marriage. It is rumored he had been cheating for years. He would tell women, “LaLa is married. I am not.”
