Tyronn Lue owes Finals foe Mike Brown $100 after losing a shooting contest 19 years ago.

The Cavaliers and Warriors have been on a collision course to meet in the NBA Finals for an entire year, and they’ll finally meet for Game 1 on Thursday. Time can’t move quickly enough right now as NBA fans salivate over the prospect of Cavs-Warriors III.

As well as the matchup between LeBron James’ Cavs and Golden State’s Kevin Durant-improved superteam, the two coaches have an old and unlikely score to settle. According to Cleveland head coach Tyronn Lue, he owes Warriors interim head coach Mike Brown some cash.

Apparently the two held a shooting contest back in the late ’90s, when Lue was a rookie on the Lakers and Brown was an assistant coach for the Spurs. The rookie was obviously a little overconfident, since Brown won the bet.

As Lue told the tale to cleveland.com: “I tried to pay him and he wouldn’t take the money so he says I always owe him. He’s always been a great guy.” The Cavs coach insisted, however, that he didn’t get humiliated, despite the loss. “He didn’t beat me, I just missed some shots. He didn’t outshoot me, no.” Lue acknowledged Brown has been quite the gentlemen about the contest, and won’t even accept the money.

The storyline is interesting for Brown, who used to coach the Cavaliers and LeBron James years ago. Now he’ll face his former team for the grand prize. As far as his money goes, he joked around about it with the media. “I’m glad he finally admitted that he owes me money because for many years he wouldn’t admit that he owed me money,” he said, per cleveland.com. “He does owe me $100 and since he got his new deal hopefully he can afford to pay me now.”
