2. Julian Edelman-WR-New England Patriots (4.1%)

After all the turnover in the receiving corps in New England and the talk about all the young talent the Pats brought in, it was returning receiver Julian Edelman that had the big week in week one against Buffalo. He caught both of Tom Brady’s two touchdown passes and was targeted nine times finishing with seven catches, 79 yards, and his two touchdowns.

Obviously, he and Brady have a connections and he’ll continue to get looks in the Patriots offense which looked underwhelming at times on Sunday. With Shane Vereen slated to miss a few weeks with a broken bone in his wrist and Zach Sudfeld with a hamstring issue, Edelman could get even more opportunities in the near future. Brady trusts him near the goal line which should keep him getting targets in the Red Zone for as long as Rob Gronkowski is sidelined. There will definitely be ups and downs, but Edelman will be a solid play for the rest of the season as a flex option.

Edelman and the Patriots host the Jets on Thursday Night Football in Week 2 and the short turnaround only favors Brady going to his “comfort zone” receiver in Edelman. He’s a valid flex play this week and a solid WR3 option going forward.
