2. The Colts can’t compete offensively

The Colts have a good offense with a lot of young pieces in place. With Reggie Wayne, T.Y. Hilton, Coby Fleener, and Trent Richardson, Luck has plenty of options and can be a danger to almost anyone. That is, except the Denver Broncos.

Historically, the best way to beat Peyton Manning is to keep him off the field with long sustained drives. If Manning is not on the field, he cannot score. The best way to achieve this is by controlling the clock with a good running game. This year, the Colts have the 8th-best running attack in the NFL, averaging 130 rushing yards a game. However, over the last three games, the Colts are only averaging 113 yards a game, a major dropoff. The Broncos also have the NFL’s best run defense, allowing only 69.8 yards rushing a game. This may have more to do with opponents abandoning the run early to keep up with Denver’s monster scoring, but that doesn’t bode well for the Colts either.

If Andrew Luck and the Colts find themselves in a shootout, they will almost certainly lose. While Denver’s pass defense is not great, neither is the Colts’ passing attack. Indianapolis has the 23rd-ranked passing game, and are only averaging about 216 yards a game. That won’t cut it against the Broncos.
