The Saints and 49ers both had “statement” wins
Unless the statement was that they’ll need to make sure they get some home playoff games, I don’t think this was much of a statement for either team. Maybe more for New Orleans because they didn’t just squeak by Carolina, they blew them out and kept them from making any kind of big plays in the game. San Francisco did a masterful job of consuming the clock in the fourth quarter for their 76-yard, 11-play drive that ended with the game-winning field goal but they didn’t really make the statement that could scare Seattle if/and when the teams meet in the post-season. Because that game will be in Seattle and San Francisco can’t seem to win there.
