NFL Rookie Of The Year Finalist Breakdown
By John Starba
Eddie Lacy
Taken out of Alabama he was just what this Green Bay team needed. For years this team neglected to get someone to fill this position and its cost them dearly. Since 2009 basically this team has had a terrible time getting that consistent play out of the running back. Prior to that, this Green Bay team had the likes of Ahman Green and Ryan Grant.
Both seen as viable options but never really became the stars they were hoping for. Injuries and just a lack of production seen them fade away and had the Packers searching for answers.
When Lacy was selected many thought their need at the position may finally go away and by the looks of how the season played out I have to believe they got their guy. Lacy was the exact player this team needed to balance out this offense. With Rodgers and this offense as a pass heavy team, now this allows them to be a dual threat. Lacy’s season may have also played out great for his value by the way of how important he was. When Aaron Rodgers went down everyone thought the Packers were done and they were just going to play out the year.
Different quarterbacks played throughout the year and gave uneasy feelings to their fans and to those watching nonetheless Lacy helped out with that problem. Lacy with some injuries problems of his own but he still managed to play in 15 games.
His stats looked like this: 15 games played, 1,178yards rushing, 4.1 average and 11 touchdowns. He also was selected to the Pro Bowl. His importance to his team shows why he’s considered to take this award and also could be a very good player during his career.
