The expansion of the NFL playoffs to add an additional playoff team per conference can sometimes raise more questions about the practicality of it than say just going full speed ahead and adding two teams per conference. MMQB’s Greg Bedard suggested the NFL playoffs expand to 16 teams and have a tournament similar to the NCAA’s, to provide “the truest champion”. Here’s why that idea stinks: the NCAA basketball season is virtually useless because of the tournament.

Sure, everyone loves the tournament and the excitement and watching the Cinderella teams advance or the dominant ones prove themselves but who finds NCAA basketball that exciting in November? Want a way to completely disregard the regular NFL season; make it so half the teams get into the playoffs every year regardless and then all the attention will only ever be on the playoff tournament.
