More from Chicago White Sox

That appears to be the case for a Chicago White Sox fan who on Sunday afternoon turned a near disaster into a feel good moment after catching a wayward bat that made its way into the seats – just inches from hitting an unsuspecting baby.

It all went down when Tyler Flowers lost the grip of his bat, sending it careening into the crowd sitting directly above the dugout.

Sitting in the front row were two men and a woman who, instinctively, reached up with the woman hauling in the rotating bat.

A flying piece of hard lumber coming at your head is terrifying enough, but if you happen to look closely at the video, you’ll notice a woman holding a baby sitting directly behind the woman who actually caught the bat.

The woman did what she could to shield the baby and appeared to turn away before any impact would have occurred, but that also exposed the back of her head in the process. Needless to say, had it not been for the cast of characters sitting in the front row who caught the bat, the situation could have turned very scary.

Eileen Depesa, who caught the bat, said she knew the baby was sitting behind her and knew she needed to prevent the bat from getting beyond her reach.

“I was more concerned with protecting the baby seated behind me.”

Impressive job, all around. And next time Tyler, use more pine tar.
