Salvador Perez and Carlos Santana have more value in 10x10 leagues

I realize that over the last couple of months I have largely neglected non-standard scoring leagues. I have covered 5×5 and points leagues, but not 10×10 leagues. So that is what we will cover for the next week. The players who have hidden value in 10×10 leagues because of doubles, triples, holds, etc. The things that don’t stand out in a standard league.

The standard 10×10 categories are hits, runs, average, doubles, triples, home runs, RBI, walks, steals, and OPS. For pitchers it is wins, losses, ERA, WHIP, saves, holds, strikeouts, quality starts, K/9 and complete games.

We will go position by position and find the hidden gems in 10×10 leagues. First off is the catchers!

Jonathan Lucroy, Brewers: He is one of the top catchers in any fantasy league, but he is even better in a 10×10. He leads all catchers with 26 doubles, which is nine more than second place. He has also drawn 34 walks, which is second among catchers, as is his .917 OPS. He has proven to be the complete package for 10×10 owners. He has even added a triple and three steals (yes, that is tied for the lead for catchers)!

Devin Mesoraco, Reds: His breakout season continues. He leads all catchers with a ridiculous 1.054 OPS. He is second among catchers in home runs with 14, and second with 40 RBI. The only thing I would say here is don’t pay for these numbers. I doubt he keeps up this break-neck pace. However, if you can get him for a fair price, it is probably worth doing.

Miguel Montero, Diamondbacks: He leads all catchers with 43 RBI, and has drawn 31 walks. That helps keep his OPS up even with a batting average that is, well, average.

Carlos Santana, Indians: After a miserable start, he is having a nice June, and should only get better. His average is up to .214, and he now has 12 home runs. He has also scored 33 runs, which is third among catchers. His OPS in near .800 because of the walks. He has walked 55 times, by far the most among catchers. Lucroy is second with 34. You might have a hard time buying him low right now, but I would even pay for last year’s value right now and reap the rewards while he is stil eligible behind the plate.
