Con: The Bulls Were A Better Fit

Basketball-wise, there wasn’t a better situation for Carmelo Anthony than the Chicago Bulls. The Bulls are a tough defensive team with a great coach that need a go-to scorer, even if Derrick Rose manages to stay healthy for a whole season, and Melo would have provided that. Anthony is a poor defensive player who needs a team with a defensive stopper and the right coach/system to either hide him or motivate him on that end, and the Bulls would have provided that.

With all the drama unfolding in the East, it wouldn’t be surprising if the Miami Heat’s Big Three splits up. That would leave the conference up for grabs and the Bulls would automatically become favorites to reach the NBA Finals with Melo on board. Even if LeBron James stays in Miami, can you imagine how intense that Bulls-Heat rivalry would become if Melo entered the fold? Turning down that much money is tough to ask anyone to do, but if Melo’s biggest priority was ending the “overrated superstar” talk and winning his first ring, Chicago isn’t wrong to think the Bulls were his best bet.
