New York Yankees Trade Targets: Price, Lee on the radar
Cliff Lee (4-5, 3.67 ERA, 64 K)
In the end, he just may finally find his way to New York, just not exactly how he thought he would four years later.
Although he was simply rocked by the Giants for 12 hits in Philadelphia’s 7-4 loss Monday night, Cliff Lee is another solid left-hander the Yankees can use in their rotation.
Lee is just 4-5 on the season (Monday marked his first start since late May) with a 3.67 ERA and 64 strikeouts. Although his numbers are down this year so far, Lee went 14-8 with the Phillies in 2013 with a 2.87 ERA and 222 strikeouts, the third straight year he recorded over 200 strikeouts.
Even though he’s only pitched in 11 games this year, Lee has close to a 6-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio showing that even in a down year, he is still one of the best strikeout pitchers in the Majors.
The Yankees have shown a lot of interest in Lee, scouting his last minor league rehab start
With Philly going nowhere this year, the Yankees can make a push for Lee with either Luis Severino, Aaron Judge or even second baseman prospect Rob Refsnyder as a part of a package for Lee. Refsnyder would be a valuable part of a trade deal considering the fact that the Phillies may be looking to move their current second baseman Chase Utley.
Hopefully this time Yankee fans can treat his wife right.
