NFL: Joe Philbin, Rex Ryan among coaches on hot seat in 2014
Jason Garrett, Dallas Cowboys
Over the last four seasons, the Cowboys have morphed into a venerable laughingstock — and it’s not all the fault of widely criticized quarterback Tony Romo. Big D has gone four straight years without a playoff berth, spending the last three in 8-8 purgatory.
Garrett, whose offensive playcalling leaves something to be desired, can’t go without blame. Since succeeding Wade Phillips, he has accumulated a very mediocre 29-27 record. The team under his watch has yet to truly come together despite a roster chock full of talent.
Every year, rumors fly that Garrett’s job is in danger. And every year Garrett gets another year. As the team begins training camp, outspoken owner Jerry Jones said 2014 isn’t a make-or-break season for Garrett, who’s entering the final year of his contract. That might change — and quickly — if Dallas finishes in or near the NFC East basement.
