Despite CC Sabathia’s struggles—which date back to early last season—the Bronx Bombers lost a major piece of their rotation when the hefty left went down with a right knee injury following a May 4 start against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Sabathia feared the worst when it was thought that he may require a microfracture surgery that could potentially end his tremendous career, but according to multiple reports, Sabathia will avoid that operation and instead undergo an arthroscopic procedure that should have him ready for spring training.

The 6’7″ lefty may have been 3-4 with an ugly 5.28 ERA, but Sabathia is an innings eater and almost always gives the Yankees a chance to win when he takes the hill. Without him, New York may have to rely more on their bullpen. Plus, CC has the postseason experience the Yanks require should they make a run for another title here in 2014.

It hasn’t been a pretty 14 months for Sabathia, but if you know baseball, then you know his caliber and what CC brings to the table every time he toes the rubber. New York will miss him this season.
