Outside of a ten game stretch, it’s been nearly three years since we’ve seen Derrick Rose on the court. Now presumably healthy, the Chicago Bulls star and former league MVP is readying himself for the NBA’s regular season by working out with Team USA this Summer.

More from Chicago Bulls

Alongside Derrick Rose is Chicago Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau who is working as an assistant for USA Basketball.

It’s a great way for Thibs to keep an eye on his Chicago Bulls star and says Derrick Rose is doing everything the right way as he makes his return to the hardwood.

“This is the next step,” said Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau. “Derrick has handled every step to this point the right way. The last time he participated in USA Basketball, he followed that with his MVP season (in 2010-11). So we’re hoping he can use this time productively.”

Clearly eager to get back to the game he loves, Derrick Rose also suggested that he plans to make his ‘doubters’ eat their words, so the former Memphis Tiger is feeling rather confident going into the 2014-15 season.

As for Rose’s status on Team USA, he does have prior experience and that is likely to factor in when roster decisions are made. However, he’s no sure assumption on the team considering fellow All-Star talent like Stephen Curry, Damian Lillard and John Wall are all vying for the same spot.

Derrick Rose meanwhile just seems thrilled to be back playing basketball. Hopefully he’ll be able to put his injury woes behind him and return to the elite form we all remember.
