The Anaheim Ducks will honor Teemu Selanne by retiring his No. 8 jersey on Jan. 11. against the Winnipeg Jets, the first NHL team the Finnish Flash played for in his Hall of Fame career where he scored a rookie-record 76 goals and won the Calder Trophy in 1993.

Selanne retired after the 2013-2014 season after 21 years in the NFL, the bulk of which spent with the Ducks where he retired as the franchise’s leader in goals, assists, game played and just about every other meaningful offensive category in his illustrious career.

“Teemu is our franchise icon and deserves to be the first player in club history to have his jersey retired,” Ducks owner Henry Samueli said in a statement. “His dedication to this franchise and our community is unmatched.”

One of the greatest goal scorers in the history of the NHL, Selanne retires with 684 goals, which is good for 11th all-time and his 1,457 points are good for 15th all-time.

“What a great honor,” Selanne said. “The Samuelis and the entire Ducks organization have made this a very special place for me and my family. I look forward to sharing this special night with our fans, who have treated me so well for 18 years.”

Selanne also played for the San Jose Sharks and Colorado Avalanche during his career that saw him make 10 All-Star teams and also was a six-time Olympian for Finland, winning four medals.

As the leading scorer in Olympic men’s hockey history, Selanne capped his international career as the MVP of the Sochi tournament after leading Finland to a win over the U.S.A. in the bronze medal game.
