Minnesota Vikings – Matt Cassel vs. Teddy Bridgewater

Another rookie versus vet battle is going down in Minnesota. This quarterback controversy features 10-year veteran Matt Cassel going up against former Louisville Cardinals star Teddy Bridgewater.

In their preseason opener Friday night Cassel took the first step in beating out Bridgewater for the snaps in Week 1 when it actually counts. During Cassel’s one series, Minnesota marched 70 yards in 10 plays for a touchdown against the Oakland Raiders. He completed 5-of-6 passes for 62 yards and was sacked once.

Bridgewater was given more reps and did get to work with the first team. He took two sacks and had a fumble that was recovered by offensive lineman Matt Kalil. The stat line wasn’t pretty as Bridgewater went 6-of-13 for 49 yards. On the positive he showed off his arm strength and mobility. The tools are there for Bridgewater it’s a question of how quickly he will be able to put it together.
