Mailbox has long been one of the most popular email applications on mobile devices.  Whether it is due to the streamlined abilities of the program or the aesthetically pleasing nature, the app just works.  Mailbox is now headed to desktop computers for the first time.

Dropbox acquired Mailbox last year, and now a Mac version of the popular app was rolled out to desktop computers today.

Mailbox is one of the smarter email sorting programs on the market.  Based on user tendencies, the software focuses on what could be your potential decisions with each email and utilizes an “auto-swipe” feature to sort your mail.

Each preference in Mailbox is synced with users Dropbox accounts, so no matter whether you are using the program on a mobile device or a desktop, the functionality remains the same.

One huge improvement to Mailbox is that draft functionality will now be introduced to the software.  Mailbox’s Liz Armistead told Mashable, “The way IMAP works now, it saves every couple seconds so you end up having hundreds of versions in your trash. The way Dropbox works, a draft is almost like a collaborative doc in your Dropbox — it’s not taking up space and it’s not like you can access it — but Dropbox is holding that metadata so your drafts aren’t replicated a thousand times.”

With the offerings that Dropbox has built up in Carousel and now Mailbox, the company continues to push forward as one of the leaders in the productivity category.  Users of the Mailbox mobile app also have to be pleased.
