NFL Player Power Rankings: Quarterbacks
No. 15-11
15. Alex Smith – Kansas City Chiefs
Alex Smith just got paid. The Chiefs made a major commitment to him going forward and while some may question that decision, Andy Reid’s reputation with QBs speaks for itself. Smith may never be amongst the NFL elite, but there may not be a safer bet in this range of the rankings to produce at a consistent level.
14. Nick Foles – Philadelphia Eagles
Nick Foles was producing at an elite level last season, but before he joins the ranks of the NFL’s elite he’s going to have to prove that it wasn’t a fluke. Chip Kelly’s offense should put him in position to succeed, so if Foles is the real deal he could easily crack the top ten of these rankings by season’s end.
13. Colin Kaepernick – San Francisco 49ers
There is no denying Colin Kaepernick’s abilities. His freakish athleticism and strong arm make him a dangerous weapon and in his first two seasons as a starter he’s lead his team to the Super Bowl and NFC championship game. Still, Kaepernick looked a little off last season and needs to prove he’s more than just a raw talent or he could begin slipping down these rankings.
12. Matthew Stafford – Detroit Lions
Stafford may produce huge numbers, but he’s yet to prove he’s one of the best QBs in the NFL. The additions of Golden Tate and Eric Ebron to go along with Calvin Johnson should allow Stafford to have his best season to date. If he can’t produce consistent results with the weapons around him this season it will be time to start questioning if he can ever take that next step.
11. Cam Newton – Carolina Panthers
Cam Newton is an elite NFL talent. However, coming off of ankle surgery and now dealing with a hairline rib fracture, can Newton be expected to carry a Panthers offense that is breaking in a whole new wide receiver corps? Newton has top ten talent, but this season will be a test of how much the young QB can handle.
