NFL season predictions and award winners for 2014-15
By Josh Sanchez
Rookie of the Year
Allen: Ryan Shazier, Pittsburgh Steelers. He impressed at Ohio State and is already impressing in Pittsburgh. Dick Lebeau may be 76 but he still knows how to run a dominant defense. Shazier is the young piece the Steelers can build another defensive dynasty around.
Sanchez: Shazier. If there was ever a linebacker built to play under Dick LeBeau, Shazier is that guy. During the preseason, Shazier has shown flashes of brilliance and he will only get better as the season goes on. In an ideal world for Shazier, he will be getting an opportunity to play against Johnny Manziel in the second meeting between Pittsburgh and Cleveland so he can pad his stats to drive home his case for the award. If you were to give the award to an offensive guy, Blake Bortles or Derek Carr would probably have to be the pick.
Dyce: Jadeveon Clowney, Houston Texans. The way things are going this year it looks like the Houston Texans will be playing a lot of defense this year. With offenses focused on stopping J.J. Watt, Clowney can have a field day in opponent’s backfields.
Jorgensen: Brandin Cooks, New Orleans Saints. The most prolific receiver coming out of college can play outside or in, and just happens to be in a situation where he is being tossed passes by Drew Brees. It works itself out
Hill: Cooks. Drew Brees throws the ball a lot. Drew Brees loves receivers that are speedy and can catch the ball. Drew Brees is going to win Brandin Cooks the Rookie of the Year award on offense for maximizing his production this season.
