NFL Week 1: 5 must-watch games
New York Giants at Detroit Lions
When: Monday, Sept. 8
Time: 7:10 pm
TV Broadcast: ESPN
The first game of ESPN’s Monday Night Football doubleheader should be lots of fun to watch. If it’s Monday, and Megatron is in the game, you can count on a good show.
The Lions are ready to prove that their 2011 season was no fluke and that they have the ability to contend in the NFC. With a new head coach, Jim Caldwell, the Lions have a renewed spirit that was very apparent during the preseason. The new offense incorporated by the Lions this year seems to fit QB Matthew Stafford well, and that could be trouble for the rest of the NFC.
The Giants are in a similar position to the Lions, only they have a 2-time Super Bowl winning quarterback who wants to prove that he’s not as bad as he played in 2013. The Giants have lost a lot of the pieces of their Super Bowl winning teams, including Justin Tuck, Hakeem Nicks, Will Hill this season. All eyes will be on the Giants’ offensive line to see if they can give Eli Manning any time to throw the ball.
Both teams match up pretty evenly both offensively and defensively, with the Lions having an edge in pass offense.
